Prostate! Prostate! Prostate!

When Harold Usher was diagnosed with prostate cancer, he and his wife felt at a loss. They didn’t have a clue even about what questions they should be asking the urologist. This book is the result of Harold’s journey of self-education. Besides being a prostate cancer survivor, the author is an engineer, motivational speaker and city councillor in London, Ontario. Dr. Joseph Chin, a Urologic Surgeon from London, supported the project with enthusiasm; his role was invaluable in ensuring medical accuracy and completeness and helping to translate complex scientific terms and concepts into information laypeople can grasp.

The book begins with a general health discussion and goes on to describe what the prostate is and how it works. It then narrows in on a detailed explanation of prostate cancer — how it’s diagnosed, treatment options, the surgical experience (including how to prepare for your hospital stay and what to expect after surgery), tips on managing the physical and psychological effects, and how partners can offer support. The friendly, narrative style interspersed with personal experiences and anecdotes, as well as many illustrations, help to make the medical information easily accessible. The authors hope men and women will read this and learn!
